Phasmagorica, the Sold-Out Los Angeles Séance Experience, Opens Permanently in Santa Fe
The immersive paranormal art installation — featured in the Los Angeles Times and Forbes — relocates to New Mexico for its first permanent residency, opening [July 17, 2026] in Santa Fe.
SANTA FE, N.M. — [July 23, 2026] — Phasmagorica, the immersive séance experience selling out in Los Angeles and drawing national coverage from the Los Angeles Times and Forbes, has relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where it opens its first permanent home on July 17th. Created by composer, magician and Academy of Magical Arts member BC Smith, Phasmagorica is a thirteen-guest paranormal experiment staged inside a purpose-built chamber — a curated museum installation, a social salon, and a séance where the guests become the medium.

Guests enter the Chapter House in small groups, where they are received by the Archivist. The evening begins with attunement—a quiet preparation of attention, clairvoyance testing, and collective intent—before guests pass into a chamber shaped by sacred geometry, evolving spectral light, and a thirteen-speaker Dolby Atmos system.
Inside, the instruments of spirit communication are placed directly into their hands: scrying mirrors, tarot cards, pendulums, and haunted trigger objects drawn from the Phasmagorica collection. There is no medium, no cast of actors, no jump scares, and no theatrical illusion. The guests themselves become the instruments of the experiment.
Although the conditions are carefully constructed and the sequence precisely guided, what occurs within them cannot be prescribed. Each guest encounters the evening differently, and every experience of Phasmagorica is entirely their own.
“Santa Fe has long had a great deal of strangeness woven into its fabric—spiritual, artistic, historical, and entirely its own,” said BC Smith, creator of Phasmagorica. “It felt like fertile ground for Phasmagorica - the right place for the experiment to take root, and for us to establish its first permanent home.”
The company's motto — Belief Optional. Experience Inevitable. — is also its design brief. Phasmagorica deliberately avoids horror tropes, haunted-house machinery, and theatrical spectacle. Its reference points are the occult salons of Paris at the turn of the century, the private research chambers of Victorian London, and the American spiritualist movement of the late 1800s.
“I’m not a medium, and I don’t claim to be one,” Smith said. “My role as an artist is to construct the conditions for the experiment, then remove myself from it. I stay out of the room deliberately. Any paranormal activity that occurs belongs to the people at the table. They frequently report extraordinary occurrences that defy explanation.”
The Los Angeles run began at a studio Downtown Los Angeles, then Heritage Square Museum before moving to the Petit Ermitage Hotel in West Hollywood, selling out consistently through word of mouth and Instagram alone. The Los Angeles Times profiled the experience in September 2025; Forbes covered it that October.
How to Attend
Phasmagorica opens on selected nights each month, with dates chosen that fall into curious alignment with lunar timing, historical correspondence, omen and chance. Each release of dates is called a Conditions of Release, and seats are limited to thirteen per seating.
